Arnold Schwarzenegger says he still loves estranged wife

1 min read

Actor and former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger has told a German newspaper that he still loves estranged wife Maria Shriver.

The Austrian-born performer told popular German tabloid Bild: “We’re not fighting any war: I still hope for reconciliation; I still love Maria.”

Schwarzenegger and Shriver were married for 25 years but separated in May 2011 after he confessed to fathering a child with housekeeper Mildred Baena more than a decade earlier.

Schwarzenegger’s son by Baena was born just days after the birth of his fourth child with Shriver.

After the confession, Shriver moved out of the couple’s home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, and later  filed for divorce on the grounds of ‘irreconcilable differences’. She described her husband’s admission of infidelity as “painful and heartbreaking”.

Shriver, a journalist, TV presenter and author, is the niece of assassinated US president John F Kennedy.
