Indian woman claims expatriate husband divorced her using fake documents

1 min read

An Indian woman has claimed that her former husband,. who lives in Canada, divorced her using false documents.

According to a report in the Times of India, the woman, from Jagraon in Punjab, married in March 2007. Shortly afterwards her new husband went to Canada, promising to send for her, but did not do so. Eventually, members of his family began to harass her for dowry payments, and she filed a lawsuit to that effect. Her husband was implicated in the case.

Then she received news from members of her own family her that husband in Canada had divorced her without her knowledge, not even issuing a mandatory court notice.

Her relatives investigated and discovered that an affadavit had been filed on her behalf by someone in the nearby city of Ludhiana, and her husband had used that affadavit to obtain his divorce inCanada.

Authorities are now investigating her complaint.
