Jailed millionaire says jail sentence ‘ridiculous’

1 min read

Scot Young, the millionaire property developed jailed earlier this month for contempt of court in a long-running divorce dispute has expressed bewilderment at his “ridiculous” sentence.

Young was jailed for six months for “flagrant” contempt of court for failing to provide court-ordered details of his finances.

The jailed developer insists he is bankrupt and cannot afford to pay court-ordered maintenance of £27,500 to ex-wife Michelle.

But she believes he has hidden large sums abroad.

Young is now behind bars in Pentonville Prison, London. Speaking to the Mail, he said:

“I can’t believe I’m locked up with murderers, drug dealers and rapists for 22 hours a day over a matrimonial matter.”

He added:

“I’m sharing a cell with a complete stranger and have nothing but a bunk bed and toilet to look at. I’m trying to keep up my spirits over this but  it is hard. I never thought in a million years my life would have come to this. Luckily I’ve managed to lose 5lb by being able to work-out in the prison gym which has saved my sanity.”
