Culture Secretary plans legal protection for people opposed to gay marriage

1 min read

Culture Secretary Maria Miller is planning new legal protection for opponents of gay marriage, the Mail claims.

The 49 year-old MP is reported to be planning an amendment to the Public Order Act which would allow  people “who want to express their belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman” to do so without the risk of prosecution.

A source said:

“It addresses the concern that there will be a chilling effect so that people, such as those of faith, will be afraid to express their views in public.”

Miller reportedly hopes the amendment will help the smooth the passage of the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill through parliament.

During a stormy debate in the House of Lords earlier this month, Baroness Warsi, the Minister of State for Faith and Communities, insisted that religious groups needed more protection and abstained in the eventual vote.

Sorry, but must take you to task on this article on behalf of women, why have you included her age? Surely it is as relevant as me saying that I’d give her one? Would you have said the same if it were a male MP?

For example, Iain Duncan Smith, the DWP Minister and MP for Chingford and Woodford Green. Instead, Iain Duncan Smith MP, 59, seen better days etc. What next? Vital statistics perhaps. I think a topless page 3 for female MPs would be worth a look also. Perhaps Julia Guillard had a point in Australia recently.

      Dear James
I agree! But in my defence..I don’t write every post on here, I just don’t have the time and I didn’t write that one.
      Regards
