Comedian Russell Brand asked Katy Perry for a divorce by text message, the singer has revealed.
The 39 year-old performer sent his then wife a text on the last day of 2011, she tells Vogue magazine.
“Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011.”
Describing Brand as a “very smart man”, she was, she says, “in love with him when I married him.”
She also admits to mixed feelings about Brand’s sense of humour.
Perry told Vogue:
“Hysterical in some ways. Until he started making jokes about me and he didn’t know I was in the audience, because I had come to surprise him at one of his shows. So. Hysterical to a point.”
The singer and musician says she feels partly responsible of the end of the 14 month marriage.
“… I have to claim my own responsibility in things. I do admit that I was on the road a lot. Although I invited him time and time again, and I tried to come home as much as I possibly could.”
Last month she admitted that a disagreement over having children had contributed to the end of the relationship.
The musician also told Vogue:
“At first when I met him he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they’re like, I can’t handle the equalness.”
After the divorce, Perry become involved with rock musician John Mayer.
