Scottish woman wins legal fight to divorce Syrian husband

1 min read

A Scottish woman married to Syrian man has secured a divorce from her husband two years after he deserted her to join the continuing armed uprising against President al-Assad.

Jannah Reid, from Dundee, has been trapped in the country with her two sons since her left in 2011, as Syrian law forbade her from leaving without his written consent. Living in an apartment block in the capital Damascus, she earned an income teaching the English language to locals.

But after an extended struggle, she has now been granted a divorce, The Courier reports. Reid told the paper:

“I’m finally free of the weight around my neck. I am now divorced from the children’s father, legally.”

But she has no immediate plans to return to Scotland, Reid added. “I am not coming back to the UK. I am going to Egypt.”

I feel sorry for the children who have parents with such poor judgement 🙁

I agree with Luke 100%. The children are the ones who suffer the most when the parents exercise poor judgment.
